I’ve had some pretty unbelievable dining experiences lately, and the time has come to take a break from sharing recipes and tell you about one of them. This past weekend, my fiancé and I and a couple of friends decided to venture into a part of town we spend very little time in and try a new restaurant. I had heard about Cuchi Cuchi from numerous people so wanted to check it out. It is located on Maine Street in Cambridge and to say that it has unique flair is an understatement. This retro restaurant is designed to “personify the age of Old World Beauty and early Hollywood” and really takes you back in time with the decor and the way the wait staff is dressed. The menu consists of “international small plates” that are meant to be shared. I love family style restaurants, it’s so fun to collaborate on the menu choices and try multiple plates. So we took a little tour across the globe and experienced a completely unforgettable meal. The service was excellent, and it’s a great spot to go to with a group of friends.
A run-down of our meal:
First up: Seafood-filled Avocado (Guatemala).
This dish consisted of grilled lobster tail, shrimp, scallops, octopus and crabmeat stuffed in a perfectly shaped avocado, with some salsa on the side. Need I say more?
Second dish: Brie en Croûte.
I’m pretty obsessed with brie so this dish was my call. It was oozing with flavor and I was completely swept away by it. It consisted of brie, bacon, onion/garlic jam baked in a puff pastry with honeyed walnuts & green apple.
Third dish: Tuna Lavish
Tuna anything is fine by this girl. This plate had sushi-grade raw tuna, greens, pickled watermelon, organic bacon – rolled in bread & grilled and served with an asian vinaigrette.
Next up: Cuban Cigar.
It looked exactly as it was described. Inside each wrap was beef short ribs and it was served with a black bean salsa. Yum.
Fifth dish: Mexican deep-fried tomato.
This beautiful creation consisted of a deep friend tomato, queso blanco, avocado, tomato and salsa Pico de Gallo.
Next: Gobi Manchurian (Indo Chinese)
Yeah, I didn’t know what it meant either. But so happy we went for it. This dish consisted of crispy cauliflower fritters served with a tangy, spicy sauce. An awesome mix of textures and I may or may not have licked the plate.
Second to last: Grilled Skirt Steak with Chimichurri Sauce. (Argentina)
I went to the restroom and by the time I came back there was very little of this left so no picture. The meat was served gaucho style with Chimichurri – a classic thick parsley, garlic & herb sauce. The meat basically melted in my mouth.
The grand finale: Bracioletta Ripiena di Maiale (Italy)
Bringing it back to our homeland, this dish was grilled pork rolls stuffed with pecorino cheese, pancetta and sauteed garlic. Each bite really packed a punch and it was absolutely delicious.
Been to Cuchi Cuchi? Would love to hear your thoughts. Or if you’re headed there soon, tell me about your experience! They don’t take reservations so I would suggest putting your name down and having a drink at the bar. Worth the wait, I promise!

Everything looks great……….and what did Matt eat?
